My favorite planner for students

One of our favorite planners to use with students is the Order Out of Chaos Planner.

These planners help students see time, so that they can learn to manage it.

The planners have the days of the week listed horizontally, and their classes listed vertically so students can see their entire week in one glance and easily see exactly how much time they have left to prepare for each major due date!

Here are some of the reasons I love this planner:

  • The planners are laid out in an easy-to-read grid format so that students can see exactly what they have coming up for each class each day of the week.
  • The classes stay put when pages are flipped, so students don’t have to rewrite the class names over and over
  • There’s space to track after-school activities and weekend commitments, so that students can plan ahead more intelligently by also taking into account other commitments that might affect the amount of time they have available to do homework on any given day
  • There are a variety of covers, so students can pick the one they like best
  • The pages are cleanly designed, without any distracting ‘quotes of the day’ or science facts. All students will see is what they need to get done.

Getting more support

Sometimes, having the right tools in place is only part of the solution. (Even the best tools and strategies won’t help if your student isn’t willing to use them.) If you’ve talked with your student before about using a planner and they haven’t been open to your suggestions, we’d be happy to help.  If you’d like to talk about your student’s situation and how academic coaching could help them reach their academic goals, you can sign up for a parent call here.
